Town of Chebeague Island

Press Release

It is with gratitude for a job well-done that the Town of Chebeague Island announces the retirement of its town administrator, Marjorie Stratton.  Marjorie has served the Town well over the past five years and has left the Town with a stable workforce and in a sound financial position. Marjorie spent her professional career in finance and municipal government.  Following years as a municipal auditor, she served as VinalhavenÕs town manager for twelve years before coming to Chebeague. Marjorie decided to live on Chebeague. She quickly became part of the community and happily shared her love of music.  Part of MarjorieÕs legacy has been her leadership in the TownÕs Covid emergency response.  Her positive messages and collaborative spirit have helped islanders address community needs during the pandemic in a positive manner.  Chebeaguers wish her well as she heads back to Vinalhaven to begin her well-deserved retirement.

The Town of Chebeague Island is pleased to announce that the Board of Selectmen have hired Justin Poirier, of Augusta, as its new town administrator.  Justin, who begins his tenure on November 23, comes to Chebeague after more than a decade in state and municipal government in Maine and Massachusetts. Justin graduated from the University of Maine in Orono with a BA in Public Administration, and he earned a Master of Public Policy from the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth. Justin has worked for the cities of Bath and Auburn, Maine as well as Belmont, Massachusetts. A certified assessor, Justin has also served as MaineÕs Director of the Property Tax Division.  His career goal has been to become a town administrator and looks forward to the challenges and opportunities of leading the Town of Chebeague Island.
